There are many skin lotions and moisturizers in supermarkets to prevent dry skin. Various bottles and jars with magical substances inside, with motley labels offer quick help. Yes, they work, but most of them are quite costly and some of them may contain chemical additives which are not pleasant for our health. In such cases natural home remedies are probably a way out. Cheap, pure home made depending on components or your fantasy, they are effective in nourishing and hydrating dry skin back to a healthy condition.

In this article I wanna talk about one of my recent natural discovery for dry skin. Taking care of dry skin is not an easy task; I guess most girls have many problems with that, especially when it comes to choosing the right scrub. Well, it is believed that dry skin doesn’t need any scrub as it is already suffers lack of moisture and peeling can make the situation go worse. Ok, from this point I will say that this is a huge mistake. Dry skin DOES need scrubbing but in more delicate way in comparison with other skin types. So, I decided to use some ingredients which are mild for dry skin and are able to keep it moisturized and hydrated.

Natural Moisturizer Recipe for Dry Skin

You will need:

Mix all ingredients well until you get a smooth paste. Keep this mixture in a bottle. Apply on wet face with circular movements using fingertips. Use facial scrub 2-3 times a week, better in the evening.

Among different essential oils I’ve taken rose oil. Besides its wonderful floral scent it stimulates cell growth while moisturizing and hydrating the skin at the same time. It boosts all skin types and is particularly beneficial to dry, mature and sensitive skin. It helps to reduce skin redness, fights inflammation and repairs broken capillaries. It also acts as a general skin tonic with its astringent properties.

Don’t use salt scrub if you have skin redness, irritation or blemishes. It will only make skin condition worse!

All of those ingredients are good in treatment of dry skin. Facial scrub helps to get rid of dirt and skin grease, makes skin soft (due to sea salt which acts as natural exfoliant) and at the same time moisturizes it (due to oils). But the main component in homemade recipe is camellia oil. And I will focus on its healing properties which you can learn below.

Use of camellia oil in face and body care is an ancient Japanese beauty secret by which the geisha and samurai had a flawless skin complexion, smooth skin and shiny hair. Camellia oil is an excellent multi-functional natural remedy, with which you can moisturize the dry and very dry skin, take care of under-eye area, in hair treatment, used as body lotions, lip balm cleanser and makeup remover. Camellia oil has a light sweet floral aroma, more pleasant compared to other oils, which distinguishes it among the natural oils.

It is rich in vitamins beauty A, B and E, unsaturated fats, collagen and antioxidants. Camellia oil can be attributed to the low-fat oils – quite soft in texture reminiscent of light grape seed, as well as sebum secreted by the sebaceous glands. It consists of:

  • Oleic acid (omega 9) – 86%
  • Palmitic acid – 7.5%
  • Linoleic acid (omega 6) – 3.8%
  • Stearic acid – 2.2%
  • Arachidonic acid – 0.5%

Studies have shown that oleic acid is an excellent emollient and remarkable natural means to preserve and improve the skin’s moisture. She has an unprecedented insight into the lower layers of the skin, greatly enhancing the growth of cells, provides support for the skin’s elasticity.

In addition, oleic acid is a trans-dermal carrier of nutrients and bio-active compounds (collagen and elastin) in skin to help repair the damage caused by dryness, sun exposure and other adverse factors.

The oil quickly and easily absorbed into the subcutaneous layers, perfect for moms – to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy and improve the elasticity of the skin all over the body.
