Home remedies for headache relief can become a perfect alternative to chemical pills. Nowadays there is a huge number of medical pills that can help relieve headache. But at the same time more and more people are trying to solve this problem avoiding using chemicals, replacing them with folk remedies for headaches: herbal infusions or decoctions, essential oils.

Headache is a common problem for many people. Everyone has to face this at one or other time. With headache you can’t live normally.

The causes for headache can be physiological changes in head and brain, genetic factors, stress, etc. In this article you can find different home remedies that can help you to get relief from the headache.

Natural remedies are quite effective and give the best solution but not that much instant when you compare to over the counter medicines.

Ice Pack

It helps to numb the things and reduces the inflammation at last prevent the pain.

You will need: ice cubes, wash cloth.

Take a few ice cubes and cover it with a clean cotton cloth / wash cloth as a pack. Now apply that ice pack on the painful areas like forehead, temples, back of your neck and other parts to prevent the headache. Here try to apply the cold compress as soon as headache starts. You will feel relief within 20 minutes of use.

Peach

It contains magnesium which helps in relaxation of tiny muscles that contract blood vessels to ease the tension and gives relief from the migraine headaches.

Take the peach and make a juice of it with the help of blender or mixture. Drink that juice regularly whenever you feel that you’re having headache. Taking the juice of peach will help you to run away the virus that causes the nausea which further causes the headache. Drinking peach juice or apricot nectar will helps to prevent the headache.

Hot Compress

If the weather outside is cold or snow is falling means it’s the time for you to put the hot water compress for soothing relief.

You will need: clean wash cloth, hot water.

Take a wash cloth and hot water (not too much hot). Dip this wash cloth in that water (see that the cloth has to be wet fully). Squeeze it out and apply it on your eyes or other areas where pain is coming. Leave it for about 30 minutes. Make sure to re warm it whenever you feel necessary.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint is a natural and herbal remedy which is known for its calming, soothing and numbing property. It when applied will helps to open and close the vessels that will promote the blood circulation and it quickly reduces the pain that causes the headache.

You will need: peppermint oil or leaves.

Take some peppermint oil into your hands. Apply this oil to your forehead & temples. Gently massage on the area where the pain is coming. Crush the peppermint leaves and put it on your forehead. It is very effective in treating the tension headaches. Make sure that not to use this remedy for children, pregnant lady or people who have sensitive skin as it causes the burning effect.

The use of Cloves & Other Spices

Spices will play an important role in treating the headache. Cloves acts as a natural pain killers as it an antiviral property.

You will need: dried marjoram, rosemary, mint, dried lavender & rose petals (if you wish), cloves.

All the ingredients are available in the kitchen spice rack. Take 4 tbsp of each ingredient other than clove into a cloth sachet bag. Then add 1 tbsp of clove and close that sachet bag. Inhale deeply by holding the bag to your nose. Until and unless you feel it subsiding or getting relief from the headache, inhale it. If you don’t have a sachet bag, you can try the clean handkerchief. Or you can apply this bundle of herbs to your head while you taking rest.

Rosemary

It is one of the oldest medicines used to treat headaches and other pains. It contains anti-inflammatory which is similar to aspirin or ibuprofen. It contains rosmarinic acid which acts as a pain killer.

You will need: 1 teaspoon of crushed rosemary leaves, 1 teaspoon crushed sage leaves, a cup of boiling water.

Take crushed rosemary and sage leaves in cup. Add boiling water to fill it. Then cover it to prevent the volatile oil to escape from it. Steep the tea until it reaches the room temperature. Take 1/2 cup of tea as a dose for once & drink it for 2-3 times a day. Repeat the process to get rid of headache problem.

Ginger

It gives relief from the headache as it acts as anti-inflammation to reduce the inflammation of the blood vessels in the head and gives a relief.

You will need: tea leaves, ginger, cup of water, milk, sugar, water.

Take tea leaves and ginger in a cup of water. Boil it for few minutes. Then add milk and sugar according to your taste. Consume it twice a day to get best result.

Mint Juice

Mint is an effective medicine for headache. It has antiseptic and anti-pruritic properties. It contains menthol and menthone which helps in alleviating headaches.

You will need: mint tea or mint juice.

Take mint tea compress and put it on the forehead to get relief from the discomfort. Or you can also try mint juice. Apply the mint juice on your forehead and temples. If possible apply coriander juice along with mint juices which is effective in treating the headaches. Allow it to sit for few minutes. Wash it off.

Basil

It is one of the medicines for headaches which are caused by tension and tight muscles. Basil works as a muscle relaxant.

You will need: cup of water, few fresh basil leaves.

Take some handful of fresh basil leaves. Put these leaves in a cup of boiling water. Let it come to normal heat to drink it. Sip the tea slowly which helps to prevent the headache.

Lavender Oil

It has healing and calming properties which helps in giving better relief from the headache. Other than lavender oil no other essential oil will help in that way to get rid of the problem.

You will need: lavender oil, a bowl of hot water.

Take a bowl of hot water. Add some lavender oil in it. Now, inhale its vapor for few minutes. Several times the process has to be repeated in a day.

Cloves

You will need: few cloves, a clean handkerchief.

Take a few cloves and crush it gently into small pieces. Now take a sachet or handkerchief. Place these crushed cloves in it. Inhale it whenever you feel headache until and unless you get relief from the pain.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon can cure the headache which has be affected by common cold and cold air.

You will need: few cinnamon sticks, water.

Grind few freshly grated cinnamon sticks by adding a few drops of water. It will form like a thick paste. Now apply this paste on your forehead and leave it for few minutes. Remove the paste when you feel relaxed from headache.

Apple

Both of these have attributes that can help in balancing the alkaline and acidic levels in the body and gives relief from the pain of your head.

You will need: 1 apple, salt.

An apple a day keeps the problems away. So, eat an apple everyday with the skin on of the apple and with some salt. It helps to get relief from headache.

Apple Cider Vinegar

You will need: 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar, glass of water.
Add two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to a full glass of water. Drink it to get relief. Try to drink it twice a day to get relief from the pain.
