Cinnamon Mask. Lightening Hair Tips

11

The most popular mask for natural coloring is lightening hair with cinnamon. If you are looking for natural and safer options to slightly change hair color, cinnamon powder is the best choice. Yes, exactly! That cinnamon, which you can find on the shelves in supermarkets and shops.

Who knew that this sweet-smelling spice can gently bleach the hair and cover it all it with wonderful fragrance. In addition, it is an excellent source of manganese, fiber, iron and calcium.

When you decide to lighten hair with cinnamon powder, you should not expect your hair will be like the blonde after the first procedure. But still it will work and lighten your hair for at least 2 tones. Don’t forget that cinnamon is a natural dye, so you cannot get blonde hair just because using this product it is impossible. Basically, none of natural remedy can guarantee you a very visible change in hair color. The only way to have blonde hair is to bleach them.

Applying homemade cinnamon mask upon hair, be ready to keep patient waiting for the result. It cannot be noticeable immediately. But this mask is worth to try because the final look will make you wonder – your hair will be shiny and smooth as well. As a bonus your hair will have wonderful “tasty” smell that everyone will envy.

Don’t expect results of lightened hair after first application of cinnamon on hair. Only chemical dye can provide sufficient change of hair color.

It is a well-known fact that cinnamon is widely used as a basic ingredient for hair mask with honey. Honey and cinnamon are the natural agents of the peroxide, but their effect is not as harmful to hair as that peroxide which is a part of chemical dye.

Cinnamon Hair Lightening Tips

  • For application you may use special brush. If you spread the mix with fingertips, wear gloves!
  • First, don’t apply cinnamon mask to the hair roots and scalp if you use it for lightening effect. There is a risk of burns because the cinnamon has a strong warming effect. It may happen because you should leave cinnamon blend on hair for 1-2 hours or even more. It is aggressive substance if not avoided the scalp.
  • Some girls prefer to keep cinnamon mask on hair even overnight. I don’t advice to do it because while sleeping the mixture may get onto scalp and provoke serious skin irritationю Just imagine that cinnamon mass will remain on your skin for more than 5 hours!
  • If you have dry hair, then it is recommended to add 1 egg yolk. Depending on hair length, you may double the amount of ingredients in the blend.
  • If the mask causes tingling sensation, add more base oil next time (for example, jojoba, almond or macadamia). Oil has nourishing effect on hair follicles. If the burning sensation is too strong – wash the mask immediately! It means, the mask got onto the scalp, so better wash it off!
  • In order to achieve the result of hair lighter up to 2 tones, repeat cinnamon application once a week. The mask will work on hair with natural color, for dyed hair it is useless.
  • Women with blonde hair better avoid using this mask as there is possibility the hair can acquire unpleasant yellow tint after procedure. Anyway, cinnamon shows its best results only on darker hair, but still useless for blonde.
  • After dye mask application it is very possible to achieve effect upon two tones of natural color lighter. But the final result will depend on the natural hair color. If you wish to make hair much more lighter, then this procedure must be repeated once every 7-10 days.

Cinnamon mask. Perfect way to lighten hair color

Making Cinnamon Mask: Natural Hair Dye Solution

  • Use organic honey to prepare the blend for hair. Melt it in a bowl but don’t make it too hot.
  • Besides cinnamon powder the recipe for lightening hair implies using fresh lemon juice as well. Moderate amounts of the lemon juice are good for hair. But if it is used in pure form on the hair, it can lead to damaging the hair roots and split ends. So, it is perfectly fine to squeeze some juice and add it in your hair mask. It will give it a fantastic cleanse and shine. Avoid pure form of lemon juice on hair. The reason: it is acidic and it strips hair of the colour and oils. None of this is good for hair and it can become very dry and brittle.
  • First, wash your hair so it will be clean before starting the procedure. When it is dry already, brush it and separate into 2 or 3 zones depending on how heavy and thick your hair is.
  • Mix all ingredients together into a thick mass. Evenly spread over the damp hair.
  • Rub gently the mixture avoiding hair roots and scalp zone. It will help to evenly cover the areas. Make sure all hair is generously covered with mixture. So, you will avoid uneven hair lightening.
  • After that you may gather your hair into a bun or secure it with an hairstyle item. Take a towel and wrap it firmly across the head to keep your hair together.
  • Wash off with any organic shampoo. For better results rinse your hair with chamomile infusion.

I’ve decided to use cinnamon powder to lighten up my hair. Most of my hair is very dark, some of it is black, but my main goal is to lighten up the parts and to even the hair tone. It looks really awful but I don’t wanna use conventional dye. I did my first cinnamon mixture a month ago. I just applied it after my shower, wrapped my hair up, and then washed it out in the morning. I was impressed because I started to see a slight color change in my hair. I will continue using cinnamon powder in hair treatment. By the way, it leaves a wonderful scent in hair.

I used cinnamon powder to lighten my hair several times. It didn’t work at all. Obviously with these natural and gentle method, it is a gradual process. You cannot get the same result as such with instant conventional dye. I’ve been adding a dose of cinnamon to my shampoo and quite a lot of honey to my conditioner. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice any change in hair color. But the mixture helps keep my hair bright and soft. Even my boyfriend compliments on me!

I bought a lot of cinnamon powder. I thought to myself it will make a great hair treatment. So I mixed it up with honey and olive oil and slathered it my hair. I don’t remember how long I left it on for, but when I rinsed in the shower it really hurt the skin on my back and neck. It was terrible! I had a rash on the skin for a few days. But I think it happened just because I have really sensitive skin, I can’t imagine it would do that for everyone. So I don’t recommend this method for girls with sensitive skin. As for hair color, cinnamon mixture didn’t work at all!

I tried cinnamon lightening several months ago. I did a Cinnamon/Conditioner ratio of 1:2, slathered enough on to cover my hair and left it for about one hour. After I washed off the blend I did notice a visible lightening in my hair. But my scalp hurt a little and was very sensitive and on my shoulders and back I had red marks. Seems, I applied it in a wrong way. The mixture should get on the scalp, such unpleasant result could be avoided. Anyway I’m very pleased with the results! My hair became lighter!

I’ve used cinnamon powder mixed with honey to lighten my hair. It works well to create subtle highlights. If, however, you want to see a more dramatic difference in the shade of your hair, you cannot avoid conventional bleach. No doubt, cinnamon is more gentle than dying hair, but it also doesn’t works relatively quickly and effectively. You have to have patience if you do not want to bleach your hair. It will take probably a few months for all of this to work.

I tried honey with cinnamon a few times, and there was no detectable difference in hair color. This basically works in the same way that the lemon juice does but is less drying to your hair. I have naturally black hair and I always wanted to make it a little lighter. I guess, cinnamon powder doesn’t work on black hair, but it makes it so soft and smooth. Sometimes I use cinnamon to achieve that effect. I like it!

I have very very dark brown, almost black hair naturally. I’ve been using honey and cinnamon to try and lighten my hair. I think I’m beginning to see some results! I Cinnamon added some auburn tint to my hair and I like it! Next time I plan to introduce chamomile tea into the blend for better results.

I have brunette hair. I have used the combination of cinnamon powder and honey on my hair a couple of times in the summer and it seemed to make a little difference! But you need to put a lot in your hair. I want to try the mix of chamomile tea with cinnamon powder. It might work better.

    • How long do you have too keep it to see a noticeable difference? I have literally multicoloured hair with blonde in parts, red, brown and black. Literally almost every shade. How many days if I keep it for an hour?

  1. I know lemon is harmful for your hair and dries them out but apply coconut/canola/almond/olive oil before you apply lemon juice to protect your hair. Sit in the sun for the process to work and it made a difference in my thick black- brown hair after the first try! The oil will slow down the process but this is the fastest way. Leave on for 30- 90 minutes and find amazing results. Repeat process several times per month for a permanent color or just repeat until you get your desired result

  2. Did the cinnamon-oil-honey for about 2 hours and my hair has never been so shiny and soft! I have really dark brown hair (almost black) and there isn’t much of a lightening effect after just 1 application but I do notice that it brings out the red/copper tones. I probably wouldn’t do it too often because the mixture is really hard to wash off because of the honey and makes quite a mess in the shower.

  3. I just used honey and cinnamon powder and it worked great for me! I mixed about 2 tbs of honey and about 3 tbs of cinnamon (I let it sit for 30min) Then i stirred it up again and parted my hair in the middle. For each half of my head I divided the hair into 3 parts starting from the bottom (I have very thick hair and it is medium length) after applying it to all 6 sections I put a shower cap on for 8 hours. After 8 hours I threw my hair over my bathtub and washed it out, I heard the cinnamon irritates peoples back and neck in the shower. I had no irritation the way I did it, so I would definitely recommend washing it out over a sink or bathtub. I have medium brown hair, between light and dark brown, I also have blonde highlights. I love the results! My hair is now a reddish-brown and the highlights have kind of a red tint to them. I was surprised it made such a difference after the first time, I dont even have t o repeat the procedure )

Im not sure if i did something wrong here, but the result came as a subtle change in my natural highlights, along with very very dry, brittle, and greasy hair. I put conditioner and cinnamon both as half cups, like the different website told me to do, and i left it in overnight, with a shower cap on. And in the morning i washed it out with shampoo and conditioner (without cinnamon. I had taken two showers today and my hair has turned dry, brittle and greasy each time, even after washing it 6 times in ONE day! Someone help please, i need to fix this! Thank you! )

  5. I did a cinnamon honey lemon olive oil and conditioner mixture and left it in my hair for 4 hours I have virgin hair and it’s dark brown and it’s been 2 months and my hair is light golden brown it does work you just have to be patient the more time you leave it in the more lighter your hair is going to get sincerely Ashley Rivera.

  6. I have used the cinnamon, lemon juice, honey and olive oil treatment a few times and I noticed that my hair lightened after the first time. It continues to lighten my dark brown hair to a soft dark blond. I want to try this treatment in order to blur the line between the gray and my brown hair. I have been wanting to go gray and I found this a great way to smooth the transition easier. Plus side is my hair is healthy and has a beautiful shine and soft feel. I will continue to use this treatment! Best of luck!
