Long time ago I used to apply garlic hair mask. This time, I had to start doing it again because I faced serious hair fall. I don’t know why other complain about garlic awful odor in hair, I don’t feel such. I prefer to leave the mask on head for more than 40 minutes. After that wash hair with organic shampoo and apply conditioner as usual. The effect becomes visible within one month of regular use and it is a great solution for hair loss.

Garlic mask is one of my favorite ones. It makes hair shiny and soft. If you worry about garlic smell in hair – add few drops of essential oils to the mixture and it won’t bother you at all. As for me, I apply garlic on hair regularly – and I already noticed positive changes! I’d been suffering from dandruff for 10 years already. No matter which shampoos and cleansers I tried – nothing helped me to prevent dandruff. After several applications of garlic, I noticed less hair on my comb and symptoms of dandruff became less visible. For making hair mask I use 3 cloves of garlic, 1 tablespoon of raw honey and 1 tablespoon of olive oil. I mix all components with a blender so no clumps will be left on the hair. You won’t believe but it worked! I apply the mask once a week within 2 months and feel very satisfied with the result!

I have thin and weakened hair so mask with garlic turned out to be very effective for me! After regular application hair loss was reduced significantly. But that terrible odor bothered me for a long time!

Garlic hair mask is definitely effective but it is not suitable for me. I’m working in the office all day long. It means if I apply the mask on hair and wash it off with a lot of water and shampoo – the smell will still remain in hair. Moreover, once I gut a burn on the scalp after using garlic. That time I visited a dermatologist. She told me that people with sensitive scalp like mine should avoid any irritating masks.

To my mind, garlic is a unique remedy which helps to cure a sore throat, boost up the immune system and prevent hair loss as well. Once a week I apply the mask with garlic to improve hair structure. I have thin and brittle hair and dye them once a month. Garlic treatment saved my hair! I don’t know what would happen to them if I didn’t use garlic in the mask at all. I will continue applying garlic on hair despite smell!

I’ve heard a lot about garlic benefits for hair but didn’t believe it really works until I tried. I spent money on various lotions and cleansers to get rid of dandruff but nothing worked. Believe me or not, due to garlic mask I finally forgot about my problem with hair. I used to apply garlic on scalp twice a week. Every time I noticed that my hair structure becomes better and better. Well, the only disadvantage is that smell! But I didn’t care much because the results are worth trying garlic mask on hair!

Once I tried to apply garlic with honey on the scalp. To be honest, I didn’t notice any changes in hair though I followed the recipe and did everything in a right way. The reason why I didn’t continue doing is that annoying smell. That was awful! I had that pizza-like smell in my hair till I washed my head after few days. So, basically, it is up to you to decide whether it is good for you or not.

Since all that hormones do is cause fungal infections to move elsewhere in the body, I tried nature’s strongest anti-fungal anti-parasitic antiviral on my scalp. Yeah, that’s right, raw garlic. It stinks and burns and it is disgusting but it does work. Try it for a month if you don’t believe me. I have been treating my hair loss for 14 years and this is the fastest regrowth I’ve seen with any treatment yet. I also eat a clove before bed and at breakfast and put the garlic on my scalp at bedtime.

I have been using garlic juice for a month already. Right after each 20 minutes application, I noticed lots of flakes (looks like dandruff) on my head. Not sure if the flake is from the garlic juice or my scalp. Seems like there is a mild scalp skin peel. I have never had dandruff. This flake thing does go away after I wash my hair. The bad thing is that scalp smells kind of foul. The smell lingers even after 3 days!!! Washing my hair (shampoo my hair twice) does not reduce the smell. When the weather heats up or when I start working out, the smell of garlic (on the scalp) becomes quite noticeable. I have to shy away from the cute girl working out next to me at the gym when I started to sweat a little from my scalp. I think I will stick with this smelly regime for a while before I jump to any conclusion.

  2. Your Comment My name is Terry from kenya;I lost my hair on my temples . thro. My search for hair regrowth I was informed to use garlic I have tried for two days but on the second day I saw that my scalp has burned areas which looks like the ones resulting from hot oil.Grated one clove applied the paste directly after one hour I applied olive oil and then wore shower cap then in the morning washed off. what should I do to benefit from this remedy?

    • Rin Dandelli, Dermatologist, MSc

Terry… wait a minute. As I understand, you applied garlic mask for whole night! You should never, NEVER, apply any mask for such long time. Long exposure of any high irritating elements leads to skin damages.

  3. Can I just immediately apply the garlic extract without mixing them with the ones mentioned above to grow my hair? I don’t care about the smell.
If so, how much should I put in my hair, and how long should I leave it?
