Every girl knows that the skin retains smooth, taut and healthy if it is cleansed of dead skin cells. The best way to achieve the positive result is to apply the scrub regularly. This type of cleansing is called a mechanical peeling. It does not affect the deeper layers of the skin but purifies only the surface of the epidermis. Thus, the use of a scrub is the most gentle procedure among other types of cleaning.

Here you will find a collection of homemade body scrub recipes that will make your skin soft and smooth. They include all organic ingredients and are easy to prepare.

Basic Natural Ingredients for Body Scrub

  • Sugar is used in most skin care products. Sugar contains glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid that is crucial for maintaining healthy skin. The natural glycolic acid in sugar not only helps moisturize skin but also protect it from toxins. This natural product does not clog pores, it restores balance to skin’s oils.
  • Salt is a useful treatment for exfoliation of the skin. It has numerous benefits for the skin as it is a blend of natural minerals and other useful substances. It helps rejuvenate your skin and removes the dead cells. It is a wonderful natural treatment for delaying the signs of aging. Salt acts as an antibiotic and helps to kill the germs from your skin. It also helps improve the circulation of blood in skin cells.
  • Baking soda is a good exfoliating agent that removes dead cells. In addition, it balances pH level of the skin, which is important to maintain even and clear skin. But remember that baking soda is effective when used for short periods. If the watery soda solution has a very weak alkaline reaction, then baking soda in powder form can be very harmful. Just because it is a strong alkali. So, better avoid prolonged contact of soda with the skin and mucous membranes or eyes. Ignorance of this rule may lead to skin irritation or even burns.

Tips to Use Body Scrub

  • Always follow the rule to apply the scrub on the skin 1-2 times a week. On the one hand, such regularity allows you to get rid of dead skin cells. On the other, it affects the skin, depriving it of its natural protective layer.
  • Those who have irritated and very sensitive, prefer to use the scrub not more than 3-4 times a month. Avoid using harsh ingredients to prepare body scrub. Everything depends on the use of additional components in a cream or gel base, and most importantly – on the size of the abrasive particles, the expense of which is produced and exfoliate dead cells.
  • If you have normal, oily or combination skin, use a scrub once a week. It will allow you to remove dead skin cells and provide deeper skin layers with more oxygen.
  • If you have dry skin, apply the body scrub once in two weeks. Otherwise, inflammation and skin surface erosion may occur. Prepare scrub with a soft consistency and use mild ingredients. After using the scrub, always apply the body cream to make skin soft and hydrated.
  • Be careful with scrub if you have acne on the skin. Alternatively, it is better to use a clay-based scrub because it has a quite “soft” consistency which won’t be harmful to the skin. Applying the scrub twice a week will be enough to get good results.
  • Apply the body scrub on the wet skin with massaging movements for 3-5 minutes. You can leave the blend on the skin for few minutes and then wash it off with warm water. After that, you can use body cream to nourish and moisturize the skin if necessary.
  • Don’t repeat the scrub applications more than twice a week. The frequent use will stimulate process of keratinization of the skin and the skin will become flaky and dull. Due to the fact that surface epithelium will die off more quickly, then you will need to use the scrub more and more often.
  • Many girls in the spring begin to use scrubs actively. They believe that in this way it will be able to tone already dehydrated skin after long winter months. This is a big mistake! The skin is in desperate need of moisture and vitamins that’s why it needs more delicate and gentle care. So, you should be very careful with body scrubs.

Apply the body scrub in a right way:

  1. First, you need to wash your face with warm water.
  2. Then, apply a small amount of body scrub with fingertips on the purification zone. Movements should be light and not oppressive.
  3. Move the fingers from the middle of the forehead and nose to the temporal lobe, and from the chin to the ears. Combining such massage you will conduct the most effective exfoliation.
  4. Try not to touch the area around the eyes. The skin there is thin and sensitive.
  5. The procedure takes about 2-3 minutes.

Why you shouldn’t use body exfoliant too often?

Regular use of the scrub is quite aggressive action. The composition with abrasive particles of natural or synthetic origin significantly affects the delicate skin. They scratch it creating a set of microtraumas. If you use the body scrub too often, you can seriously hurt the skin surface. The skin becomes dry, rough and irritated. Also, it may lose elasticity. Scrub exposure can disrupt the process of cell regeneration. It means that the skin loses the ability to update its rejuvenating processes, falling into a kind of dependence on mechanical cleaning. Moreover, scrubbing prematurely ages the skin by inhibiting the natural process and deteriorate the normal function of the epidermis.

Contraindications in Using Scrub for Skin

The three main procedures which help keep the beauty of the skin – cleansing, hydration and nutrition. The most important process is cleansing. It improves the skin condition by removing makeup, dead skin cells dust and dirt. The best way to keep the skin fresh and clean is using the scrub.Using scrubs may give positive results but in some cases, it is not recommended. • continuous feeling of tightness, even at the end of the cleansing procedure
  • during the cleansing procedure, you start to feel the itching or burning
  • strong irritation, skin inflammation
  • extensive lesions of acne

Usually, I use sea salt and a few tablespoons of olive oil. Why spend money on conventional product when you’re going to rinse it off anyway. I mix the sea salt and the oil. Then, I wet my skin in the shower, pour the resulting mass from a small bowl into my hand and start massaging. It’s a little messy, but totally worth it! Then, I rinse it off and wash my skin with shower gel. After all my skin is very soft.

I tried to mix the sugar with some coconut oil to make a body scrub. I love it! Will definitely be using it instead of commercial product! Just make sure you use a gentle touch, and let the sugar do the work. Exfoliating too much and with too hard of a touch has brought about many a breakout for me. So be careful with that. Anyway, it works well for the skin!

I try to use natural things on my face and body. One of my favorite home remedies is using brown sugar for creating a whole body scrub. I add about 1/2 cup of brown sugar and mix it with 1 cup yogurt and 2 tablespoons of organic honey. It gets all of the dry skin cells off my body. My skin is so smooth and soft. I’m gonna recommend it to all my friends!

I love everything natural. Homemade products can give wonderful results. The natural body scrub is fair better than most commercial scrubs. Just a cup of sugar, the juice of one lemon and enough olive oil to hydrate the blend. Mix it all and rub it gently into your skin, especially in problematic zones like elbows and knees. I usually leave it on my skin as a mask (10-15 minutes will be enough). Then wash it from your body as you usually do it in the shower. Fantastic! Clean, exfoliated, hydrated and smooth skin!

I started using body scrub about two times a week. Before I had started using this, I bad major pimples on my back. I tried everything to get rid of them, but nothing worked. Suddenly, they all disappeared after I started to use the body scrub. I mix brown sugar, olive oil and lemon juice and apply it on wet skin while taking shower. After I use it, I apply body cream to sooth it and make it soft. I feel very pleased with the results!

I love using homemade scrubs since my teens. I do not like to use Olive oil though I find it too heavy. I’d rather substitute it with jojoba oil or coconut oil. When using brown sugar I like to use it straight on my face. Sea salt is also good but when it dissolves in water it causes tingling sensation sometimes. Not a good idea to use salt on already irritated skin. It will be unbearable! As for me, the best choice is a coffee scrub. It leaves my skin so soft and smooth. And that coffee scent for the whole day as a bonus!
