Lip balm is a product most of us can’t (and shouldn’t!) do without. Who would have thought you could make the most hydrating and healthiest lip balm in your own home? This recipe has a long shelf life and can even become a wonderful gift to your friends!

The skin of our lips is delicate and sensitive, so it often suffers from aggressive weather conditions. Lips can start to dry and crack in cold and the windy weather in the winter or from the sun or street dust in summer. Today’s article is about how to make lip balm at home and which benefits it has.

Any girl can have many lip balms in her bag, but often we are still unhappy with the results of their application. Typically, the compositions of the majority of commercial lip balms include artificial wax – a cost-effective replacement for natural waxes and oils.

What is not good about such lip balm? Answer is simple – it doesn’t moisturize nor nourish lips, it creates a film on the surface, which in most cases disappears within hours. Besides lip balm out of the store, as well as any other “streaming” cosmetic can cause gradual addiction.

To avoid these troubles and really start to moisturize and nourish the lips, you can prepare a lip balm with natural ingredients at home. It will be completely natural, does not cause addiction and will moisturize the lips throughout the day.

Before preparing natural lip balm, it is worth exploring its standard composition. Primarily it includes beeswax. This is the main and mandatory ingredient. And this is true not only for homemade cosmetics, but also for commercial one. Beeswax is used to make product acquire the desired hardness. Without the addition of the wax product will be extremely inconvenient in use and sometimes impossible. Furthermore, it protects the skin against inflammations and fungal infections, kills germs.

Natural Lip Balm Recipe

You will need: 1/2 tablespoons of beeswax, 1 tablespoon of cocoa butter, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of sweet almond oil, 4 drops of vitamin E oil, 10 drops of vanilla oil, 5 drops of lavender essential oil.

In a double boiler, melt beeswax, cocoa butter and coconut oil. Once melted, remove ingredients from heat and stir in the remaining oils.

Pour the liquid into your desired lip balm packaging (better choose a small glass jar or stainless steel tin) and let cool for half an hour before putting the lid on the container.

Benefits of Natural Ingredients

Cocoa butter: Research has also shown that the several antioxidants which are present in cacao butter have a way of preventing free radicals which are destructive to the skin from carrying out these destructive tendencies. Also it prevents dry skin. Used regularly, cocoa butter both moisturizes and promotes elasticity.

Almond oil is especially wonderful on damaged, dry or flaky skin. It will definitely leave your skin feeling smooth, soft and moisturized. The oil is extremely soothing and instantly hydrates even the driest skin. Even placing almond oil on extremely chapped lips will work better and faster than most lip balms.

Coconut oil effectively remedies dry or cracked skin and helps keep connective tissues strong and supple thereby reducing the appearance of fine lines.

Vanilla oil helps to prevent damage of the skin cells, due to the toxic action of pollutants and toxins because it is rich in antioxidants.

Ready cooled lip balm can be stored in a special container for lipstick or a suitable small jar. Do not leave it under the hot sun or in other warm place, as it can quickly melt and “leak”. Homemade lip balm, when properly stored in a cool place, will pass quite a long time – from six months to a year. Homemade balm is recommended to use regularly, evenly moisturizing dry lips during the day and evening.
