2

Styling products can leave a film which strip moisture out of hair making them dull and brittle. Everyone knows that hair is made of protein. The best way to trap moisture and add sheen to your hair is to have a protein treatment. Some natural products provide such effect. Egg mask can help get long lasting result without wasting money and time.

Eggs masks in hair treatment can really do magic. They provide a source of vitamins and minerals that are necessary for the healthy hair growth. The egg yolk contains vitamins A, C and E, as well as various amino acids, mineral salts and cholesterol. A high percentage of protein restores structural shell bulbs, stimulates hair growth, smooths and gives a luster to hair.

Egg Benefits for Hair

Depending on certain purpose different egg parts are used in homemade hair masks.

  • The whole egg is natural treatment for dull and brittle hair, restores damaged hair.
  • Egg yolk is suitable for dry hair type.
  • Egg white treats oily scalp and problems associated with it.

Eggs contain amino acids which prevent dandruff appearance and scalp itching. Egg yolk is abundant of nutrients necessary for healthy hair growth. Lecithin helps restore damaged hair caused by frequent dye procedures. Also, egg yolk has vitamin B3 which is able to stimulate hair growth. Besides lecithin, egg has other nutrients beneficial for hair:

  • Vitamin A – treats small wounds on the skin. Possesses regenerative properties.
  • Vitamin D – makes hair stronger, eliminates hair loss.
  • Vitamin E – enhances the elasticity of the strands, activates collagen production on the cellular level.
  • Vitamins of B-complex – reduce dandruff, stimulate hair growth, strengthen hair follicles and prevent the appearance of split ends.
  • Iron – enhances blood circulation, provides hair follicles with oxygen.
  • Phosphorus – strengthens hair follicles.
  • Sodium – has drying and strengthening effects on hair roots.
  • Potassium – improves hair structure.

Tips to Make & Use Egg Mask for Hair

  • The best results are obtained by using domestic chicken eggs. If you cannot find such, then you buy eggs in any supermarket. Better choose small size because such eggs come from young hens and contain plenty of vitamins and nutrients.
  • Before preparing hair mask, put the eggs out of the fridge so they will be of room temperature.
  • If you use egg white as a component for mask, remember that it may dry out your hair. Logically, egg white is more suitable for oily hair type. Mixing with other components such as sea salt, mustard powder, cinnamon powder or cayenne pepper tincture, prefer to add egg yolk to hair blend. This trick will prevent dry hair and provide hair follicles with moisture and hydration.
  • To obtain homogeneous mix, use blender to stir the egg with other components. In such a way it will be easy to spread the mask over the scalp and hair.
  • Better apply the resulting mixture on dry and clean hair. If you do that on damp hair, the mask may flow on the face.
  • Wash off the mask with lukewarm water. Hot water will boil egg particles and they will stuck in your hair. It will be hard to remove them.
  • After washing off the egg mask, it is not recommended to use blow dryer or hair straigthener. This rule works only if you add egg white to hair mixture. Using styling devices mentioned above may turn you hair into dry hay. In this situation let your hair dry naturally.
  • If you used egg yolk in mask, after rinsing hair prefer to use blow dryer at low temperature. It won’t dry out your hair completely.
  • Egg mask nourishes hair length. So it is better to spread the blend on the scalp and hair completely. For better results, cover head with warm towel or put a shower cap on.
  • Combine applying the egg mask with gentle massage. Use fingertips to spread the mask evenly without rubbing. Make sure the mask isn’t too runny.
  • Duration of keeping the mask on the hair depends on which ingredients were added. If the mask contains stimulating components (mustard or cinnamon powder, sea salt, cayenne pepper, bay essential oil), then you can leave the mask on for 15-30 minutes. You may keep the mask longer (up to one hour) in case it doesn’t include stimulating ingredients.
  • Rinse hair with herbal infusion. Use nettle, rosemary or oak bark for dark hair, calendula and chamomile for blonde hair. Or you may substitute herbal tea with apple cider vinegar solution: 2 tablespoons of vinegar for 1 liter of clean filtered water.
  • If you are bothered with egg odor in your hair, you may add 3-5 drops of any essential oil to homemade hair mask.
  • If you dye hair regularly, egg mask will save your hair. Apply the mask twice a week within 2 months for better results.

Egg Hair Treatment Reviews

Cayenne pepper for hair growth reviewsDiane Saule
I like using egg yolks on hair for a natural protein treatment. I tried a mask using 2 yolks, 2 tbsp of olive oil, and 1/2 cup of clean water. I poured it onto my long hair and let it set for 15 minutes before showering. I shampooed my hair twice, using a lot of shampoo, and it was still kind of a tangled mess. After rinsing my hair with herbal infusion because I wanted to be sure I had rinsed the mask out completely I discovered my hair was shiny and smooth like never before. Combing through, my hair felt soft, I was afraid to find egg pieces in hair but it didn’t happen. But I’m pretty sure my hair still smells like egg. But it is worth trying!

I recently have been on a quest to correct some major styling damage done to my hair from obsessive heat styling and teasing. I was determined to repair my hair because it really looked awful. I like egg hair mask and usually mix it with jojoba oil. I apply the resulting mask on the scalp and spread it over damp hair. Well, I pretty much achieved what I meant to – my hair feels thicker and hydrated. The result is awesome! Advice for girls – make sure you really rinse your hair! I didn’t and a smelly egg odor has been wafting around me all day and it is not exactly pleasant. After egg mask rinse hair with cool water. Even warm water will make that egg harden.

I used egg hair mask and I think it is a great moisturizer for dry hair. My routine for this is on weekends like Sunday or any day off where I just stay home the whole day. Usually, I apply the egg mask on damp hair and leave it for several hours. Then wash off with shampoo and herbal infusion. I cannot stop touching my hair after drying it. My hair feels so smooth and soft like I used commercial conditioner! I definitely recommend this natural treatment to all my friends!

I’m 29, and I’ve suffered extreme thinning, the most itchy and layered dandruff and horrible hair loss. I have thick, wavy hair. Since I apply egg mask regularly I haven’t had dry scalp or dandruff. But hair loss was still with me. Out of desperation on my part, a doctor’s visit revealed that I have an iron deficiency – which causes hair loss. So supplements came right after the egg treatment. I’ve tried egg yolks, olive oil and lemon juice. And I’ve been seeing such an amazing change in my hair. I intend to keep doing this once a week until I am satisfied with the result, then I will lessen the treatment.

I tried the egg yolk, olive oil, honey and yoghurt mix for my dry hair. I applied and kept the blend for an hour and a half, then washed it with my shampoo and used a conditioner. It is the usual procedure that i follow for a normal hair wash. The only difference I can feel is that they have become softer and shinier. But the frizzy hair still remains which is kind of the biggest problem for me.

I like to prepare the following hair mask: 1 egg yolk + 1 teaspoon of brandy + 1 tablespoon of honey + cayenne pepper tincture (few drops). Usually, I apply the blend on hair before shampooing and leave the mask on for one hour. I repeat the procedure twice a week and enjoy the effect! I have thin blonde hair. After three weeks I noticed faster hair growth. Also, my hair became very shiny and smooth.

I tried egg mask for my weak hair several times. Each time I was convinced this natural treatment isn’t suitable for me. I mixed egg yolk with castor oil in equal proportions and applied the blend on damp hair. After one hour wash it off with my favorite shampoo. At this moment, I noticed my hair is very dry and hard to detangle. I thought I did something wrong and next time I put less oil into the mixture. Well, after I using blow dryer I still noticed my hair is dry and less manageable. Since that time I stopped using egg on my hair and preferred conventional conditioner.
